Bilateral consultations with Slovak Ministry of Defence
Representatives of the Ministry of Defence, led by Acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Predrag Bandić, held today bilateral defence consultations with a delegation from the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic, led by the Director General of the Defence Policy Division, Robert Bestro.
Assistant Minister Bandić thanked Slovakia for its principled position regarding the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, and for supporting the Republic of Serbia on its path to joining the European Union. According to him, very good and friendly relations between the two countries, unencumbered by any open issues, provide a sound basis for the development of overall bilateral cooperation.
According to Director General Bestro, Slovakia plans to join the KFOR mission and is determined to further improve defence cooperation with Serbia.
The two sides agreed that in these challenging times for European and global security, the cooperation between Serbia and Slovakia is extremely important for preserving peace and stability in the region. They exchanged views on the security situation in the region and highlighted the importance of the return of Slovak soldiers to Kosovo and Metohija.
The Slovak delegation visited the Military Health Department and the Defence University, where the capabilities of the aforementioned institutions of the Ministry of Defence of Serbia were presented to them.
