Security Information Agency Day marked
The President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, attended today the ceremony marking the Security Information Agency Day in Belgrade.
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić was in attendance at the ceremony.
At the beginning of the event, the President of Serbia, accompanied by the Security Information Agency Director Vladimir Orlić, and Deputy Director Tomislav Radovanović, laid a wreath at the Memorial Wall on which names of the Agency’s fallen members and associates are inscribed.
According to President Vučić, the 125th anniversary is an important jubilee and an indicator of the Agency’s significance.
- I am proud of the Agency and all of you, because you have always been with Serbia in difficult times, defended its freedom, its statehood, and integrity and fought against all those who wanted to destroy our country. As I was laying a wreath at the memorial to the victims, I felt ashamed of not protecting them more effectively in the past, of "putting a veil over our eyes", keeping silent and feeling ashamed of the endeavours and exploits they accomplished in the name and for the benefit of our motherland – said the President of Serbia.
According to President Aleksandar Vučić, we have never been placed under such strong pressure by external services seeking to divert Serbia from its “Serbian direction” and he has never felt such tremendous pressure from within.
- Because all the players associated with various western and eastern services are under pressure to achieve the results that external foreign services ask of them. I can barely withstand the pressure. It comes from my colleagues and friends on both sides on a daily basis. They wish to divert Serbia from its direction, or, according to them, nudge Serbia in the right direction, and this “right direction” is anything but what we have planned with the support of the people, and that is the Serbian direction and our policy and equal distance from everyone – said President Vučić.
He emphasized that, for us, the only right path is the Serbian path, namely our independence and freedom-loving policy.
- We have to guarantee our children’s safety and our homeland’s survival. We have to keep the peace here, make sure we provide our citizens with economic security. We will face many challenges. Thank you for your effort, hard work, dedication, because thanks to that, Serbia has become more successful, more advanced, a country that has achieved impressive results. We couldn't do it without you. Thank you for peace and for taking care of our people everywhere - the President of the Republic concluded.
At today's ceremony, the Agency Director presented the President of the Republic with the Security Information Agency’s gold jubilee medal for merit, 1st class.
According to Orlić, this year marks the Agency’s important jubilee, because all these years our homeland has been guarded by its civil security service, and there are few such agencies in the world that can boast of such long existence.
- That is why for us, the Agency’s long existence is not only a sign of our strong tie with our predecessors, but also an obligation towards all those who will come after us. First and foremost towards Serbia. It must live on - said Orlić.
It is the Security Information Agency’s 22nd anniversary today, and 125 years since the establishment of the Department for Confidential Police Affairs.
