Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visiting Serbia
Тhe President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, welcomed today the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is on an official visit to our country. The welcoming ceremony was held outside the Palace of Serbia with full state and military honours.
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić was in attendance at the official welcoming ceremony for the President of Türkiye.
To honour the President of Türkiye, national anthems of Serbia and Türkiye were played, a guard of honour was provided by the Honour Guard Battalion and a 10-round gun salute was fired from 10 artillery weapons.
After the welcoming ceremony and a meeting between presidents Vučić and Erdoğan, the fourth session of the High Council for Cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Türkiye, headed by the two presidents, was held, with Minister Gašić in attendance.
During today’s visit, a ceremony to sign bilateral documents was held, in the presence of the two presidents.
After the two presidents made their statements to the press, President Vučić answered a journalist’s question about whether the cooperation between the Serbian and Turkish defence industries implied the sale of Turkish drones to Serbia or potential collaborative production. He said that the Turkish military industry was much stronger than ours, but that ours was not to be underestimated, either. He said that there was room for cooperation in the future, that “we have many ideas of what our future cooperation might look like”, and that “it is important to have a strong defence industry in order to preserve peace”.
Answering the same question, President Erdoğan said that they had discussed cooperation between the two countries’ defence industries, as well as drones and taking joint steps in the defence industry sphere. According to him, both countries have certain defence industrial capacities, and Türkiye and Serbia, as friendly countries, can develop their capacities together.
Last night, an on-duty fighter aviation unit of the Serbian Air Force and Air Defence escorted President Erdoğan’s plane on MiG-29 fighter jets as it entered the airspace of the Republic of Serbia.
