Military Police, CBRN units in peacekeeping training
Military Police and CBRN units of the Serbian Armed Forces, designated to participate in multinational operations, are conducting tactical drills at Base South and Borovac Training Area in preparation for the evaluation exercise Shield-07, in accordance with the Operational Capabilities Concept Programme.
Members of these Army units undergo comprehensive preparations and complex training, striving to achieve the necessary level of proficiency required for carrying out tasks in a multinational environment and their degree of preparedness is continuously evaluated.
The declared platoons are currently finalizing their preparations for the exercise, where level 2 evaluation will be conducted by a multinational team of evaluators. Upon successful execution of the exercise, which rounds off the four-year training, the unit members will receive combat readiness certificates, which are renewed every four years.
During the final phase of collective training, the emphasis is on the use of defined tactics, techniques and procedures in different situations, which enables units to perform their tasks in multinational operations, that is, it contributes to the forces’ interoperability and combat readiness.
According to the Deputy Commander of the 246th CBRN Battalion, Lt. Col. Bojan Vlajić, the units are currently practicing the techniques and procedures that must be mastered prior to the combat readiness evaluation, in accordance with a list of evaluation questions under the Operational Capabilities Concept.
— The declared platoon drawn from the 246th Battalion is conducting training in key areas, defined as the statement of key capabilities under the Operational Capabilities Concept, i.e. the training focuses on the decontamination of people, weapons, equipment, soil and buildings that have been exposed to radiological, chemical or biological substances - explains Lt. Col. Vlajić.
Captain 1st Class Nemanja Popović, company commander with the Fifth Military Police Battalion, explains that this declared platoon of the Serbian Armed Forces was formed in 2020 and is designated to participate in multinational operations.
— The unit is currently preparing for the NATO-evaluation Level-2 (NEL-2), focusing on the practice of MP tasks to be carried out in an international environment, such as blockading and performing area searches, combating crime, establishing and overseeing the area of operations, lookout posts, temporary and permanent checkpoints, anti-terrorism operations – says Captain Popović.
The Operational capabilities Concept is one of the forms of cooperation within the Partnership for Peace Programme, the implementation of which helps the Serbian Armed Forces meet interoperability standards and helps declared units to develop operational capabilities needed for participation in peacekeeping operations.
Besides the aforementioned MP and CBRN platoons, the Serbian Armed Forces have other combat-ready units of various specialties, trained in accordance with this concept.
