Minister Gašić attends opening of exhibition entitled “Čuvajte (mi) Jugoslaviju”
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić attended tonight the opening of the exhibition entitled “Čuvajte (mi) Jugoslaviju” (Look after (my) Yugoslavia), staged at Belgrade’s May 25 Museum to mark 90 years since the death of King Aleksandar I Karađorđević.
The exhibition was officially opened by Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, representing the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić, with government ministers, representatives of Republika Srpska institutions, members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, representatives of the diplomatic corps, members of the Karađorđević family and numerous guests in attendance.
The exhibition entitled “Čuvajte (mi) Jugosaviju” is organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Museum of Yugoslavia, under the auspices of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
In his opening address, the Prime Minister said that “if we as a nation and a country did an injustice to a ruler, military leader and a hero in the 20th century, it was King Aleksandar I Karađorđević”.
- Death by oblivion is a much greater injustice than the fact that he was the first victim of Nazism and fascism in Europe. We Serbs often forget to say that we made the first sacrifice in Europe when everything was indicating that the Second World War would break out. Our very ruler, the chivalrous king, was killed at the villainous hands of Nazism and fascism - said Prime Minister Vučević.
The audience was also addressed by Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković, who thanked the President of the Republic for his patronage, the Prime Minister for his support, and the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces for participating in the organization of the exhibition, as well as by the director of the Museum of Yugoslavia, Neda Knežević, and one of the authors of the exhibition, Radovan Cukić, who spoke about the exhibition and its importance.
The authors of the exhibition are Veselinka Kastratović-Ristić, Radovan Cukić, Biljana Crvenković and Aleksandra Momčilović-Jovanović, and the exhibition includes a large number of exhibits that have never been publicly displayed before.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until March 2025.
