Regular Rotation of SAF Platoons in UNIFIL
Having successfully completed its deployment with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the Training Command unit of the Serbian Armed Forces has returned to the Republic of Serbia.
For six months, this force protection platoon was responsible for protecting the base where the Italian contingent is stationed.
This unit carried out its tasks professionally and responsibly in a complex security environment, proudly representing the Serbian Armed Forces and our country, and was replaced by a new SAF platoon, also drawn from the Training Command, which was deployed to the mission area in early September.
An official transfer of authority was conducted this week between the two Serbian force protection platoons in the UN base in Lebanon, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to this Middle Eastern country, Milan Trojanović, and the Commander of Sector West, Brigadier General Stefano Messina from the Italian Armed Forces. At the ceremony, members of the Serbian Armed Forces were awarded UN medals for successful participation in the mission.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been participating in UNIFIL since 2010, and in addition to the force protection platoon, an infantry company, staff officers at the mission command and a group of specialists responsible for providing support to our contingent are also engaged in this mission.
