New issue of Odbrana
The September issue of Odbrana magazine starts with an overview of the most important activities undertaken in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces during August. This is followed by the SYSTEM section with articles about the training of members of the Serbian Armed Forces.
The aforementioned section contains an account of the summer training carried out by the Fourth Army Brigade’s reconnaissance company, during which the more experienced unit members transferred their knowledge and skills in negotiating water obstacles to their newly admitted colleagues. The next article deals with the daytime and night-time training conducted by aircraft and helicopter pilots of the 241st Fighter-Bomber Squadron and the 714th Anti-Armour Helicopter Squadron, which, in addition to satisfying the pilots' insatiable desire to fly, also improves the 98th Air Brigade’s ability to carry out combat missions.
Another story featured in the magazine is dedicated to the Serbian Armed Forces’ Dog Training Centre located in the Prince Mihajlo Barracks in Niš, where the best dog handlers and tracking dogs are trained.
The same section contains articles about firearms and tactical training conducted by members of the Fifth MP Battalion at the Orešac Training Area, and the training conducted by the June 2024 class of military volunteers (technical and quartermaster services), who are doing their voluntary military service in the Logistics Training Centre in Kruševac.
In the SOCIETY section, you can read an article about the Association of Serbian Reserve Officers Organizations, which keeps alive a 105-year-old tradition.
The ARSENAL section features a story about the famous Spagin machine gun and a time in history when the need for such a weapon arose.
The SECURITY section contains a text about a waterway clean-up and an effort to retrieve sunken vessels of the Nazi German war flotilla, which is carried out by the Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia.
In the HISTORY section, you can find a story that originated in Media Centre Odbrana’s rich photo archive, describing the life span of the cavalry unit of the Serbian army – from its establishment in the Principality of Serbia, to its development and importance in both war and peace, to its final disbandment during the Yugoslav People's Army.
On the occasion of the centenary of the military aviation industry, the TRADITION section gives a historical overview of the military aviation industry of Serbia, whose Air Force has had, from the Kingdom of Serbia to the present day, a total of 7,648 aircraft in 548 different models, of which 3,762 were domestically produced.
The September issue concludes with an interview with the author of the "Origin" exhibition, which will open at the beginning of September in the Grand Gallery of the Serbian Military Club in Belgrade.
