SAF’s engagement on Lido Beach ends
Today, members of the Serbian Armed Forces’ pontoon units dismantled the pontoon bridge connecting the Zemun Quay and the Great War Island on the Danube River.
During the entire summer season, a crew of pontoniers was working there, ensuring the safety and maintenance of the bridge, providing citizens with an easy access to Zemun’s Lido Beach.
The 354 m-long pontoon bridge with a total load capacity of 20 tons, made up of 38 pontoon segments, which was installed in mid-July, was dismantled today and transported to its home station, which marked the ending of this year's summer season at this popular beach on the Danube.
Members of the Serbian Armed Forces, in collaboration with the touristic organization of the City Municipality of Zemun, have been setting up pontoon bridges over the Danube, connecting the Great War Island and the Zemun bank for years. In addition to being beneficial for the citizens, this is an excellent opportunity for pontoon units to practise their skills.
