Future SAF pilots undergo flight training

Basic Flight Training is underway at the military airfield Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović in Batajnica for aviation officers who have successfully completed the Reserve Aviation Officer Candidate Course.
The training activity delivered by flight instructors from the 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron is being conducted on Gazelle helicopters and consists of five segments — basic, navigation, instrument, formation and night flying.

In order to be eligible for flight training, young second lieutenants first had to undergo ground training as part of the Reserve Aviation Officers Candidate Course, which included learning about helicopter characteristics and piloting techniques, theoretical instruction in aerodynamics and meteorology, as well as the initial part of basic flight training.
Captain 1st Class Ivan Sibinović, flight instructor with the 890th Squadron, explains that the purpose of the flight training is to train aviation officers in the skills needed to become fully qualified Gazelle helicopter pilots, so that they can continue training on more complex types of helicopters.

— Once they complete their training and cover the five basic segments, they will earn the title of pilot. We are currently doing basic flying, which is the first part of training. These five segments provide the basis for pilots to further their professional development - says Captain 1st Class Sibinović.
The Reserve Aviation Officer Candidate Course, which was established in early 2022, is one of the ways to recruit candidates for careers in the Serbian Armed Forces’ aviation. Citizens of the Republic of Serbia, who hold a university degree and are not older than 27, are eligible to attend it. Upon successful completion thereof, candidates are admitted to professional military service as second lieutenants and embark on their flight training to become military pilots.
