CBRN unit conducts training
At the Car Lazar Barracks and in Ravnjak, a military complex in Kruševac, members of the 246th CBRN Battalion are conducting their regular training in the protection of the Serbian Armed Forces against nuclear and chemical incidents.
The goal of the training is to maintain and further enhance the proficiency of professional members, and this particular training phase focuses on perfecting the tactics, techniques and procedures used when performing reconnaissance and decontamination of an area contaminated through the use of depleted uranium munitions.
In accordance with the training programme, unit members are receiving theoretical instruction, refreshing their knowledge about basic characteristics of DU munitions, protection measures against them and the effects they have on people and materiel. Theory lessons are followed by practice involving marking out the contaminated area and detecting each individual DU penetrator.
Ionizing radiation is being simulated through the use of mock sources of radioactive contamination, which gives the trainees an opportunity to check their knowledge of modern radiation detection and dosimetry equipment that is in service at the 246th CBRN Battalion, with the overall aim of ensuring safety and reliability at work.
This training activity reinforces the 246th CBRN Battalion members’ competence in carrying out CBRN protection tasks in operations carried out by the Serbian Armed Forces, and improves their readiness for providing efficient support to civil authorities in technological and other disasters management and recovery.
