SAF Aviation Day celebrated
A ceremony to mark Aviation Day — August 2 – was held at the command and aviation units of the Air Force and Air Defence, in memory of August 2, 1893, when an order was issued to form aviation sections within the battalions of the Serbian Army.
On that occasion, ceremonies were held at the Aviation Club in Zemun and military airfields “Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović” in Batajnica and “Morava” in Lađevci.
As part of the celebrations, units went on parade and a display of aviation technology was held, wreaths were laid at the memorial to the fallen Air Force members, and individuals were presented with gold pilot wings and awarded flight instructor titles and other recognitions for building and strengthening the capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces.
The review of results achieved by the Serbian Air Force and its rich history, highlighted that members of the aviation branch of the Serbian Armed Forces had successfully completed all their tasks in the past year, and that the continuous acquisition of equipment and intensive training of individuals and units had significantly improved the capabilities of this branch, which was the striking force and the main combat and manoeuvre branch of the Air Force and Air Defence.
Air Force and Air Defence Commander Lt. Gen. Duško Žarković attended the military ceremonies at the Aviation Club and military airfield in Batajnica.
The ceremonies at the airfields were also attended by representatives of SAF units, former commanders, families of fallen soldiers and officers, representatives of local self-government bodies and religious communities, and numerous guests and friends of the units.
