Ceremony honouring Field Marshal Živojin Mišić held

As part of the event dedicated to Field Marshal Živojić Mišić – “Mišić’s Days”, a ceremony was held in honour of this famous military leader in his native village of Strugarnik.
At the event, which was held for the 28th time, Field Marshal Živojin Mišić Gold Plaques were awarded to deserving individuals and institutions. This year, the plaques were awarded to Major General Srđan Petković, and the best student in the 67th Class of the General Staff Course – Lt. Col. Aleksandar Pavić.

As part of the Mišić’s Days event, a delegation representing the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, led by the commander of the Second Training Centre and the garrison of Valjevo, Colonel Saša Stojišljković, laid a wreath near the Monument to Field Marshal Živojin Mišić.
Addressing the audience at the ceremony, Prime Minister’s envoy Nikola Banjac said that Field Marshal Mišić’s military prowess, courage and dedication had marked and shaped our glorious military tradition.
- Živojin was a warrior and a builder of Serbian freedom, who showed and proved that unconditional faith can destroy even the greatest evils. He was not only a military strategist whose wise battle command in the First World War’s most bitter battles brought independence to the Serbian people. He is now a symbol of honour, integrity and military discipline and loyalty – emphasized Banjac.

According to him, every culture remembers its heroes with gratitude and celebrates the memories of magnificent feats out of gratitude for the greatest sacrifice.

At the ceremony, Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković said that one of the keys to Field Marshal Mišić’s success was his infinite love for his neighbours and his native soil.

- The second key to his success was his readiness to sacrifice. As St. John Chrysostom says “there is no great love without great sacrifice”, those who are not ready to sacrifice, have no love inside them. What Field Maršal Mišić left to Serbia besides good reputation and great victory, acts of heroism, honour and loyalty to his people and country, is his six children – said the minister of culture adding that we should ask ourselves how worthy we are of such an ancestor as Živojin Mišić.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Jelena Žarić Kovačević, who said that the Mišić’s Days event was an opportunity for us to remember the feats of the great Field Marshal Živojin Mišić, because we can learn from his example how Serbia should be loved and how homeland should be defended.

President of the Municipality of Mionica Boban Janković said that Field Marhsal Mišić had become famous during the First World War, in the Battle of Kolubara, when suddenly and unexpectedly, by taking on responsibility and making wise moves, he turned defeat into one of the greatest Serbian victories. He highlighted that Field Marshal Mišić had remained loyal to the set of values he had adopted in his native Strugarnik and held onto throughout his life.
The rich cultural and artistic program included the performance of Stanislav Binički Artistic Ensemble.

Tonight's ceremony in Struganik was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the Serbian Orthodox Church, local self-government and numerous citizens.
"Mišić’s Days" is an event organized in honour of the famous Serbian Field Marshal, Živojin Mišić, and Mionica has been proudly hosting this most famous event in the Kolubara District for 28 years.
