Minister Gašić visits Serbian Armed Forces Guard
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić visited the Serbian Armed Forces Guard at the Dedinje Barracks in Belgrade today.
During the visit, Guard Commander Col. Željko Furundžić briefed the minister of defence on the unit’s organization, tasks and history.
Minister Gašić said that the Guard was an elite unit of the Serbian Armed Forces entrusted with some of the most important tasks.
- This unit symbolizes honour and professionalism, and is the pride of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. The Guard is a prestigious unit that successfully performs a wide range of important tasks. By participating in military ceremonies and parades, performing welcoming ceremonies for foreign delegations and conducting many other ceremonial duties, members of the Guard, with their presence and role, help to promote military profession and preserve our distinguished military traditions – said Minister Gašić.
According to him, investments and efforts to equip this elite unit will continue.
- The Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces will keep investing in the Guard. They will keep supplying it with new weapons and equipment and striving to improve its members’ living standards. Investments are of crucial importance if we want to make sure that the Guard remains the pride of our country in the future, ready to respond to all challenges and tasks assigned to it – said the minister of defence.
Minister Gašić took a tour of the Guard’s chapel and memorial room, where he signed the guest book, saying that we must be proud of this unit and that guardsmen are our honour, dignity and future.
The minister was accompanied on his tour today by the head of the Operations Department (J-3), General Staff, Major General Tiosav Janković, and the head of the Office of the Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Goran Momčilović.
