26th Goran Ostojić Memorial Cup held
A delegation from the Ministry of Defence, led by Assistant Minister for Human Resources Siniša Radović, laid a wreath today at the monument to Lt. Col. Goran Ostojić in Jagodina as part of the 26th Memorial Cup dedicated to the legendary commander of the 63rd Parachute Brigade, Lt. Col. Goran Ostojić, who heroically died defending his country in 1998.
Members of Lt. Col. Goran Ostojić's family, delegations from the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, the 63rd Parachute Brigade, the Association of the 63rd Parachute Brigade Veterans, representatives of veteran associations and the local self-government laid wreaths at the memorial bust as well.
Demo-jumps, martial arts and archery demonstrations, elementary school pupils’ drawings, karate fights, volleyball matches, swimming competitions, table tennis and chess matches, motorcycle races, rock concerts and seminars marked another memorial cup held in memory of the soldier, paratrooper and commander - Lt. Col. Goran Ostojić.
The event is traditionally organized by the Association of the 63rd Parachute Brigade Veterans, headed by Col. Vidoje Kovačević (retd).
Members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade performed demo-jumps landing on the playground in the Goran Ostojić Elementary School yard in Jagodina, where they then demonstrated their martial arts skills. The children enthusiastically greeted the paratroopers who landed in their schoolyard carrying the flags of the Republic of Serbia and the 63rd Parachute Brigade. The pupils also had the opportunity to try their hand at archery. During the event, the guests visited the exhibition of artwork by students attending the Goran Ostojić Elementary School, created in the fourth art colony.
Lt. Col. Goran Ostojić was born in 1962 in Bačko Dobro Polje. He died on July 28, 1998 in the Junik Mountains area, commanding the 63rd Parachute Brigade units whose mission was to prevent the illegal arming of terrorist troops and their insertion from Albania to Kosovo and Metohija.
