Statement
Equipping the Serbian Armed Forces with modern weapons systems and military equipment is a planned, continuous process stemming from our country’s strategic commitment to strengthening our defence principally as a deterrence instrument against potential armed aggression.
Therefore, the Ministry of Defence dismisses the absurd and malicious claims made by the so-called prime minister of the provisional Priština institutions saying that there is a link between the arming of the Serbian Armed Forces and the escalation in the region.
As a sovereign and internationally recognized country and in accordance with the neutrality policy it has proclaimed, Serbia implements the process of strengthening its military in an open and transparent manner, at the same time clearly stating that such steps do not pose a threat to any surrounding countries. This is supported by the fact that the Republic of Serbia is a member and contributor to regional arms control initiatives.
On the other hand, Albin Kurti and his provisional administration, contrary to the provisions of the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and other international legal documents, are arming their own illegal military formations whose sole purpose is to carry out an ethnic cleansing of the remaining Serbs in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
