Handover of duties at Ministry of Defence

In accordance with the Protocol on the Handover of Duties in the State Administration Authorities, the newly elected Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić has taken over the role from Miloš Vučević, the newly elected Prime Minister. The ceremony took place in the Great War Hall of the Old General Staff today.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.

After the national anthem of the Republic of Serbia was played, the Handover Notes were signed, and Minister Gašić presented Prime Minister Vučević with an officer’s sabre.

According to Minister Gašić, there is no greater pride and honour than to lead the Ministry of Defence.

- The Serbian Armed Forces are the guarantor of peace and stability in our territory, the guarantor of a carefree future for our children, our grandchildren and ourselves. That is why we will continue, with the help of the President of the Republic of Serbia and the Serbian Government, to strengthen, equip and train them further, with the aim of enhancing our beautiful Serbia’s progress and development. Long live Serbia - said the Minister of Defence.

Prime Minister Vučević thanked all his associates in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, describing them as patriots, people who love their country and who strive to preserve our sovereignty and protect our national interests. He congratulated the newly elected Minister of Defence Gašić, describing him as "worthy and capable of performing the role of the minister of defence in the best possible way."

- The Ministry of Defence has got an experienced minister with a long career. He has been the minister of defence, head of the Security and Information Agency and minister of the interior. A man who knows the defence and security system well, who knows how the state functions and what Serbia’s state interests are. I am sure that he will do great and useful things for the Ministry of Defence and the Republic of Serbia. You can count on my support as Prime Minister - said Vučević.

Today's ceremony was attended by members of the boards of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff.
