Success of Military Athletes at 37th Belgrade Marathon



Members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces participated in 37th Belgrade Marathon today.

The member of the Sports Unit of the Military Academy, Sergeant Đuro Borbelj won the title of the champion of Serbia in marathon and defended his last year’s title running the course in 2 hours 33 minutes and 46 seconds. Sergeant Borbelj took the fifth place in individual ranking as a member of the athletic national team of Serbia at the Championship of the Balkans.

In 10-kilometre race, in female competition, Captain First Class Nevena Jovanović from Military Police Special Operations Detachment “Cobras” was the winner, who ran the track in 37 minutes and 24 seconds, while the third place and bronze medal, in male competition, went to Lieutenant Colonel Nenad Milosavljević from the Military Academy.

Some 200 professional servicemen, cadets and students participated in the competition part of the marathon race that is 42 kilometres and 195 meters long, as well as in semi-marathon race of 21 kilometres and 97 meters, and in 10-kilometre race where they recorded exceptional results.

Today’s traditional sport event in Belgrade gathered more than 13,000 participants from 70 countries.
