State Secretary Starović Participates in Ministerial Meeting of Central European Defence Cooperation and “Budapest Security Dialogue”

State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Nemanja Starović, participated in ministerial meeting of the Central European Defence Cooperation held in Budapest, which was organised in the framework of this year’s Hungarian chairmanship over that initiative (CEDC).

Representatives of the Western Balkans were invited to attend the CEDC ministerial meeting (the initiative that gathers Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and Slovakia) having in mind the close historical and geographical ties, and security challenges that the two regions undoubtedly share.

State Secretary Starović pointed to the importance of a credible process of European integration for the stability in the region, and to the risk entailed by the precedents made in certain international organisations.

On that occasion, State Secretary Starović underlined the dedication of the Republic of Serbia to peace and dialogue, and to the respect for territorial integrity and inviolability of borders of sovereign states.

At the meeting, CEDC ministers of defence and representatives of the Western Balkans talked about the need to prioritise European integration of the states of the region, and about the influence of the changed security situation on the Western Balkans and Europe as a whole.

State Secretary Starović participated in the conference titled “Budapest Security Dialogue” at the panel dedicated to the influence of illegal migration on the security in Europe.

The conference was opened by the Minister of Defence of Hungary Kristóf Szalay Bobrovniczky who, on that occasion, expressed his expectations that the conference would, in the future, represent a platform for a comprehensive exchange of views on current security issues.
