Minister Vučević meets with Director for South-Eastern Europe, Turkey, OSCE and Council of Europe in German Federal Foreign Office Reiffenstuel
Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević met today with the Director for South-Eastern Europe, Turkey, the OSCE and the Council of Europe in the German Federal Foreign Office, Michael Reiffenstuel.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Vučević said that the bilateral relations between the two countries were good and characterized by active cooperation in numerous areas. The Republic of Serbia, he added, holds the Federal Republic of Germany in high esteem as a very important economic partner.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed that the visit from the Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany, Boris Pistorius, to Belgrade was a success. It was also emphasized that the need to de-escalate and stabilize security situation in the region was a mutual interest, as well as the European integration of the region.
Minister Vučević said that the vote for the so-called Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe was a dangerous precedent and violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia - a full member of the United Nations and the Council of Europe. According to him, the submission of the resolution on Srebrenica for approval will deepen the divisions within Bosnia and Herzegovina itself, given that there is no consensus on this highly sensitive issue. The Republic of Serbia, which has publicly condemned the crime in Srebrenica, requests that the sponsors withdraw the draft resolution and thereby facilitate reconciliation in the region, Minister Vučević said.
Reiffenstuel agreed that the cooperation between the two countries was steady and conveyed the expectation that it would further improve in the future. He also stressed that the Republic of Serbia was Germany’s important partner in the Western Balkans.
