MFO delegation visiting Serbia
Acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Predrag Bandić met today with representatives of the international peacekeeping organisation "Multinational Forces and Observers (MFO)", led by MFO Director General Elizabeth Dibble.
Expressing satisfaction with the meeting, acting Assistant Minister Bandić said that the Republic of Serbia attaches great importance to overall efforts to preserve world peace, not only formally but in a concrete manner, by actively participating in UN and EU multinational operations, and as of 2023, in the “Multinational Forces and Observes”.
With their contribution to world peace, the Serbian Armed Forces prove that they are an interoperable and reliable partner, equipped with modern means, he said.
He highlighted Serbia’s appreciation for the MFO’s efforts to preserve peace and stability on the Sinai Peninsula. Meetings with MFO officials help gain a better understanding and a more realistic perception of the environment and situation on the Sinai Peninsula and in the mission of the MFO, to which the Serbian Armed Forces contribute an engineer unit.
He thanked the MFO for the support provided to the members of the Serbian Armed Forces upon their arrival in the area of operation, highlighted the positive experiences and expressed his conviction that the Republic of Serbia would continue to deploy its members to the Sinai, and that they would perform all the tasks and missions assigned to them professionally and responsibly.
MFO Director General Elizabeth Dibble presented the organisation’s status, ongoing activities and operations under the auspices of the MFO, as well as the current relations between Egypt and Israel, touching upon security threats due to the conflict in the Gaza Strip. She expressed satisfaction with MFO’s cooperation with Serbia and emphasized the importance of the Serbian Armed Force’s contribution to the mission of MFO on the Sinai Peninsula. She also praised the SAF contingent for being extremely professional in carrying out their tasks, for their competence and discipline, expressing hope that the Serbian Armed Forces would continue to participate in this mission in the future.
Members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces have been contributing to the Multinational Forces and Observers in Sinai since July 5, 2023, when 10 members of engineer units were sent to the area of operation. Currently, the second contingent of the Serbian Armed Forces is in the area of operation.
