Minister Vučević meets with OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ian Borg
Today, Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević met with the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, Ian Borg.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Vučević wished Malta every success for its OSCE chairmanship and expressed his belief that during Borg’s tenure as chairperson-in-office, the cooperation between Serbia and OSCE would take place to the mutual satisfaction of both sides.
Minister Vučević pointed out that security challenges, risks and threats such as terrorism, economic and energy dependence and migration require the Republic of Serbia to significantly boost all forms of cooperation, both with international organizations, the UN and OSCE in particular, and the neighbouring countries.
According to him, cooperation with international organizations and full EU membership are foreign policy priorities and strategic commitments of the Republic of Serbia. Other priority goals of Serbia’s foreign policy, according to Minister Vučević, are to improve cooperation and safeguard peace and security in the world and the region.
The Republic of Serbia, Minister Vučević stressed, is in the most difficult situation yet regarding Kosovo and Metohija, because the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija are under intolerable direct physical pressure and are subjected to other forms of repression. The issue is and will continue being addressed through the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Priština, Minister Vučević said, and we urge the UN Security Council and other international actors, such as the OSCE, to take all necessary measures to de-escalate the situation on the ground immediately, in order to ensure safety for the Serbian and non-Albanian population, normalize the situation and create conditions for a meaningful dialogue between the two sides.
The minister of defence thanked Ambassador Jan Braathu for the OSCE Mission’s support and assistance to the implementation of projects in the Republic of Serbia.
OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Borg thanked Minister Vučević for today’s meeting and expressed his belief that the cooperation would build on the existing partnership. He also thanked the minister for the opportunity to present the processes and goals of Malta's 2024 OSCE chairmanship.
