Workshop on Civil-Military Cooperation
The CIMIC Department (J-9), Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, held a workshop titled “Functional CIMIC Specialists” in Belgrade this week.
This specialized training aims to prepare civilians working in government bodies and NGOs for potential engagement in operations planning and implementation of specific CIMIC projects in peacekeeping operations.
During the five-day training workshop, participants from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and the Red Cross of Serbia were given the opportunity to grasp the importance of engaging functional specialists in peacekeeping operation areas and to acquire basic knowledge about the organization and functioning of civil-military cooperation in the Serbian Armed Forces.
In peacekeeping operations, functional specialists are mostly responsible for organizing the work of authorities and public services, determining and providing assistance to vulnerable groups, organizing the transportation of humanitarian aid, establishing and running the centres for displaced persons and refugees, transporting people and goods and other similar activities.
By organizing and conducting this type of training, the Serbian Armed Forces are making a contribution to strengthening the capabilities of our country for participation in UN and EU missions aimed at building and safeguarding peace in the world.
