60th anniversary of United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus
A delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces led by Maj. Gen. Tiosav Janković, Head of the Operations Department (J-3) of the General Staff, has attended a ceremony held in Nicosia to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
The ceremony commemorating March 4, 1964, when this peacekeeping operation was established pursuant to the UN Security Council resolution, was attended by UN Secretary-General's Special Representative and Head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus Colin Stewart, and representatives of the countries whose troops are participating in the mission.
As a token of appreciation for the involvement in the peacekeeping operation in Cyprus, our country was awarded the United Nations plaque, which was accepted by Marija Marković, chargé d'affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Cyprus.
During his visit to Cyprus, General Janković had a meeting with Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus Maj. Gen. Erdenebat Batsuuri, and visited the members of our contingent who serve in the mission command and in a military police unit.
