Guard Representative Band on Parade in Belgrade
This evening, as part of marking the Statehood Day of Serbia - 15th February, the Guard Representative Band, together with the Police Band of the Ministry of the Interior, held a parade in the centre of the capital, which went through Knez Mihailova Street to the Square of the Republic.
The Guard Representative Band started the march past by performing the “March of King Aleksandar Obrenović”, near the Library of the City of Belgrade, and gathered citizens had an opportunity to hear the alternate performances of the two bands along the main street of Belgrade. The repertoire included marches, and collection of Serbian dances and songs. The gathered audience, particularly the youngest among them, applauded at every number performed at several locations along the pedestrian zone.
The great finale of the parade took place on the plateau of the Square of the Republic, when the two bands jointly performed the most famous march “The March on the Drina River”.
The Statehood Day is marked as a state holiday celebration - Candlemas, established in memory of the day when at an assembly held in Orašac, in 1804, the First Serbian Uprising was started, and in memory of the day when in 1835, in Kragujevac, the Constitution of the Principality of Serbia was issued and ratified - also known as Candlemas Constitution. This date is considered the most significant date of political, cultural and historical calendar of Serbia.
