Guns Salute, River Flotilla Boat Parade, and Aircraft Flypast to Mark Statehood Day
Today, on the order of President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić, members of the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces performed gun salute simultaneously in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš as part of commemorating 15th February - the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Miloš Vučević and Minister of Health Danica Grujičić MD, attended the gun salute performed form the Niš fortress. State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Mile Jelić and Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Želimir Glišović attended the gun salute performed from the Sava Plateau of the Kalemegdan fortress in Belgrade. Minister of the Interior Bratislav Gašić, and State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Nemanja Starović viewed the gun salute organised at the Petrovaradin fortress in Novi Sad.
Along with the sounds of music performed by the Army Military Band “Niš”, 10 volleys were fired from four artillery weapons from the Niš fortress, and the performance of the Guard Representative Orchestra preceded the firing of 10 volleys from six weapons on the Kalemegdan, while the Police band of the Ministry of the Interior lent solemnity to the gun salute of 10 volleys fired from four artillery weapons in Novi Sad.
Concurrently with the gun salute, vessels of the River Flotilla performed a promenade - in Belgrade along the route from the Sava Lake to the Pančevo Bridge, and in Novi Sad, from the Žeželj’s Bridge to the Bridge of Freedom, where citizens were greeted with traditional manning the rail by the crews of flag, auxiliary, utility, patrol and assault boats.
To mark the holiday, the Air Force and Air Defence of the Serbian Armed Forces performed a flight programme for the citizens of Serbia above several towns of the Republic of Serbia. Aeroplanes MiG-29 and CASA C-295 performed flypast above Belgrade, Mladenovac, Kragujevac, Kruševac, Niš, Jagodina, Požarevac, Smederevo, Pančevo and Novi SAD, while the citizens of Kraljevo, Čačak, Valjevo, Gornji Milanovac, Kruševac and Niš had an opportunity to see helicopters H-145 and Mi-35 on the sky above their towns.
Serbia marks Candlemas - the Statehood Day in memory of 15th February 1804 when the First Serbian Uprising broke out led by the Vozhd Karađorđe and when the Candlemas Constitution was passed in 1835, which was the first modern Constitution of Serbia.
