Minister Vučević attends meeting of Working Group on Activation of Military Service Obligation
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, held a meeting today with members of a working group tasked with creating conditions for the activation of military service obligation in the Serbian Armed Forces.
The meeting was attended by members of the collegiums of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff.Members of the Working Group were presented with starting points and guidelines for future work on the preparation of several models for the reintroduction of military service obligation by the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff and they were given principal tasks for the coming period.
Based on the meeting conclusions, the Working Group will continue to work on the preparation of several models of mandatory military service that will be presented to the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, by May 1.
Just to remind you, at the beginning of 2024, the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff launched an initiative and together with the Ministry of Defence made a proposal to President Vučić to reintroduce military service obligation in order to strengthen the defence capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces through rejuvenation, more efficient staffing and better training for active and reserve troops.
The General Staff’s proposal came after a thorough analysis of the general security situation and contemporary challenges that the Republic of Serbia is faced with as a neutral country and that have created the need to adjust the recruitment model used by the Serbian Armed Forces in a way that would strengthen the overall recruitment potential and ensure defence training for a larger number of citizens.
