St. Sava Fighting Tournament
The St. Sava Martial Arts Tournament, organized by the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, has been held at the “Rastko Nemanjić” barracks in Pančevo.
Members of special operations units of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, Military Academy cadets and students of the Military Grammar School and Secondary Vocational Military School “1300 Corporals” competed in the tournament, which dates back to 2019.
The competitors crossed swords in judo, boxing and kickboxing fights, and the members of the Special Operations Battalion “Sokolovi” (Falcons) emerged as winners.
Athletes from the Serbian martial arts associations and federations took part in exhibition matches.
The Serbian Armed Forces place great importance on fostering martial arts and training in real world fighting. This type of training is carried out on a daily basis, primarily in special operations units, MP and reconnaissance units, which helps unit members improve their psychophysical fitness and ability to react in close combat that they might engage in while executing their tasks.
