Regular rotation of SAF troops in UNIFIL
The SAF contingent, which was deployed with UNIFIL since late June, 2023, has returned to the Republic of Serbia after the successful completion of their tour of duty.
For six months, the members of this contingent, consisting of an infantry company drawn from the 1st Army Brigade and staff officers, worked in UNIFIL’s Sector East.
Their performance amid a complex security situation was rated by their superiors and the mission command as extremely professional and responsible, which means that they have lived up to the reputation of Serbian soldiers and represented the Serbian Armed Forces and our country in the international environment in the best light.
A new SAF contingent was deployed to the area of operation today, and for the next six months, like their predecessors, they will perform responsible tasks to preserve peace in this Middle Eastern country.
The ceremony to welcome the arriving troops and to see off their replacements at the "Nikola Tesla" airport in Belgrade was attended by the Head of the Operations Directorate (J-3) of the General Staff, Major General Tiosav Janković, the commanders of the 1st and the 2nd Army Brigades, Brig. Gen. Zoran Nasković and Brig. Gen. Siniša Stašević, and the Head of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, Colonel Mirjana Milenković.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been contributing to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon since 2010. Besides the troops serving in the mission’s Sector East, a SAF force protection platoon is currently engaged in Sector West.
