Message from Minister of Defence to mark Air Force and Air Defence Day

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević has sent a message to mark December 24 - the Air Force and Air Defence Day, which reads as follows:

"On the occasion of December 24, the Air Force and Air Defence Day, I would like to convey my congratulations to all members of the service.

On this day, exactly 111 years ago, Field Marshal Radomir Putnik issued the decision to form the Air Force Command headquartered in Niš. The following year, Serbia was one of the first five countries in the world to use aircraft in combat action.

The feat accomplished at that time has been upgraded and modernized over time in accordance with the new challenges and technological achievements that each period brings.

Thanks to the challenging and highly professional training, and the fact that only the best and the fittest are chosen as members of your service through rigorous selection process, we can proudly say that the Air Force and Air Defence units rank among the elite units of the Serbian Armed Forces.

In the past year, you effectively fulfilled the tasks of controlling and protecting the sovereignty of the airspace of the Republic of Serbia and protecting the safety of citizens and material assets.

I wish you a happy holiday, deeply convinced that in the years to come, the modernization of the Air Force and Air Defence units will continue, so that they can be even better and stronger, and so that the safety of the citizens of our country is ensured."
