Zastava Oružje marks its 170th anniversary
State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Mile Jelić and Assistant Minister for Material Resources Nenad Miloradović, PhD, have attended a ceremony at the Old Foundry Museum in Kragujevac marking the 170th anniversary of Zastava Oružje.
Addressing the gathering, Assistant Minister Miloradović said that Zastava Oružje was “the cradle of the Serbian Defence Industry, which speaks in favour of its importance for our country”, and announced additional investments in the defence industry and Zastava Oružje. On that occasion, he presented a plaque of the Ministry of Defence to Saša Milošević, the general manager of this armaments factory, who received the award on behalf of the employees of Zastava Oružje.
To mark the occasion, awards were presented for outstanding business cooperation, fostering mutual ties and major contribution to the development of society. A second half 19th century model cannon was awarded to the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić, the Ministry of Defence, the Development and Equipment Directorate (J-5) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, and the Military Quality Control, each.
The military factory was established in Kragujevac on October 27, 1853, to facilitate the defence of the country and it was the centre of the country’s industrial, cultural and historical development. Today, 170 years later, Zastava Oružje is a modern factory offering a wide range of products, which it exports to over forty countries around the world.
