Celebration of 63rd Parachute Brigade and Military Paratroopers’ Day
A military ceremony to mark the 63rd Parachute Brigade and Military Paratroopers’ Day was held at the military airfield “Sergeant-Pilot Mihajlo Petrović“ in Niš today.
In front of unit members standing in formation, congratulatory messages were read, past year’s results were summed up and the most deserving individuals were presented with awards and commendations.
It was highlighted that the paratroopers of the 63rd Parachute Brigade had successfully carried out all tasks assigned to them, demonstrating excellent skills, high morale, great commitment and professionalism, thus confirming that this brigade rightfully deserves the status of an elite unit of the Serbian Armed Forces.
The ceremony ended by laying wreaths at the memorial to the fallen brigade members and a jump performed by paratroopers carrying the flags of the Republic of Serbia, the Serbian Armed Forces and the 63rd Parachute Brigade.
The celebration was attended by representatives of the General Staff and SAF units, former brigade commanders, representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, local government bodies, Ministry of the Interior, veteran associations and institutions that the unit collaborates with.
Members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade celebrated today the unit’s feast day – the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God, which has been celebrated by this unit since 2002.
The 63rd Parachute Brigade and Military Paratroopers’ Day is celebrated in memory of October 14, 1944, when the First Parachute Battalion of the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia was formed at the military base near Bari, Italy.
