Regular rotation of SAF troops in UNIFIL
Having successfully completed their deployment with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, the Serbian Armed Forces unit drawn from the Training Command has returned to the Republic of Serbia.
During their six month deployment, the unit was tasked with securing the base where the Italian peacekeepers are stationed, and they were replaced by another SAF unit that had been deployed to the theatre earlier this month.
The handover took place at the United Nations base in Lebanon, in the presence of the commander of the Italian contingent. At the ceremony held on the occasion, SAF members were awarded medals for successful participation in the mission and contribution to building and preserving peace.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been contributing troops to UNIFIL since 2010. In addition to the force protection platoon, an infantry company, staff officers in the mission HQ and a group of specialist officers in charge of providing supporting to our contingent also serve in this operation.
