63rd Parachute Brigade members undergo wind tunnel training
The 63rd Parachute Brigade members who are undergoing advanced forms of military paratrooper training went to Prague last week for wind tunnel training.
This is the second time this type of training has been conducted in the Czech Republic. Its importance is reflected in the safety, the saving of material resources and the reduction of time needed for advanced paratrooper training which aims to teach paratroopers to perform free fall jumps using special wing-type parachutes, carrying weapons and equipment and landing in a small target area.
The trainees focused on learning the elements of a free fall jump and on performing jumps with cargo bags carrying weapons and military equipment. The time each SAF paratrooper spent in the wind tunnel is equivalent to the total free fall time during 50 training jumps from an aircraft at an altitude of 4000 metres.
The knowledge and skills the 63rd Parachute Brigade members have gained in the wind tunnel and the experience they have shared with their Czech colleagues will be very useful for their future work, for performing parachute jumps and training young paratroopers.
