Meeting between Minister Vučević and Ohio National Guard Adjutant General



Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević met with the Adjutant General of the Ohio National Guard, Major General John Harris, who is paying an official visit to the Republic of Serbia. The two men discussed ways to further enhance the cooperation.

Minister Vučević said that the cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the State of Ohio through the State Partnership Program is one of the leading mechanisms for developing and improving the relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United States of America.
  According to him, the two countries certainly strive to strengthen bilateral relations, clearly aiming to deepen the defence cooperation, all the while staying within the framework of Serbia’s absolute commitment to military neutrality.

Through cooperation with the Ohio National Guard, Minister Vučević said, the degree of training of the Serbian Armed Forces members is increased, operational capabilities are enhanced and experiences are exchanged relating to the preparations for engagement in multinational operations and providing assistance to the local population in crises.
At the meeting, the Minister of Defence acquainted his guest with the current political and security situation in the region, placing particular emphasis on Serbia’s unchanged position regarding the status of Kosovo and Metohija. He stressed that the Republic of Serbia is doing its best to make sure that the Belgrade-Priština negotiations are finalized in the most favourable way, producing a permanent and sustainable solution that will bring stability and prosperity to the entire region.
 
General Harris expressed his satisfaction at the opportunity to meet with the highest-ranking officials of the Republic of Serbia, Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. He also said that the cooperation with the Serbian Armed Forces has been extremely successful and expressed his readiness to continue to promote it and enhance the operational capabilities of the members of the two countries’ armed forces.  

The U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill also attended the meeting.
