SAF unit deployed to UNIFIL
A Training Command force protection platoon deploying to UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) departed from Constantine the Great Airport in Niš yesterday.
Over the next six months, this SAF unit will be responsible for securing the United Nations base in Sector West as part of the Italian contingent.
Prior to deployment, the unit members underwent thorough preparations which included several months of training at the drill grounds and exercise areas of the Serbian Armed Forces, getting ready for deployment with the peacekeeping operation. In Lebanon, they will take over from the previous platoon, which has successfully completed all assigned tasks under the mission's mandate.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been participating in UNIFIL since 2010. In addition to the force protection platoon, the Serbian contingent comprises an infantry company working as an independent unit within the Spanish battalion, staff officers serving in the mission HQ and a group of specialists responsible for providing support to our contingent.
