Minister Vučević meets with U.S. Congressman Michael Turner
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević met today with U.S. Congressman Michael Turner with whom he discussed the defence cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Vučević emphasized that the two countries certainly strive to strengthen bilateral relations, clearly aiming to deepen the defence cooperation while staying within the framework of Serbia’s absolute commitment to military neutrality.
He said that over the past 17 years of existence of the Serbia–Ohio State Partnership Program, numerous activities have been carried out that have considerably influenced the development of the Serbian Armed Forces’ capabilities, primarily their capability to engage in multinational operations.
Minister Vučević emphasized the key role of the United States in the Belgrade-Priština dialogue, which should primarily ensure peace and normal life for the Serbian and other communities living in Kosovo and Metohija. He noted that when it comes to the security of Serbian nationals in Kosovo and Metohija, Serbia views KFOR as the sole legitimate armed formation, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, and added that Serbia is absolutely determined to remain a promoter of dialogue and an enabler of regional stability.
Congressman Turner thanked the Minister for the warm reception at the Ministry of Defence, expressing hope that Serbia and the United States will reach a higher level of cooperation in all areas of mutual interest in the coming period.
The meeting was also attended by the United States Ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill.
