River Units Day and River Flotilla Day marked
A military ceremony to mark the River Units Day and the River Flotilla Day was marked today at the “Ušće” anchorage in Belgrade.
As part of the celebration, past year’s results achieved by this branch and unit were summarized; Best Ship and Best Crew Awards were presented, and the most successful individuals were given awards and commendations.Looking back on the results achieved in the recent period, it was pointed out that the River Flotilla is a modern unit of the Serbian Armed Forces, which proudly remembers its history and tradition and is professionally and technically qualified to carry out tasks on navigable rivers, canals and other flowing and stagnant waters of the Republic of Serbia.
The River Units Day and the River Flotilla Day are celebrated on August 6 in memory of the day in 1915, when the first Serbian warship – armoured boat “Jadar” - was launched from Čukarička Padina, which marked the beginning of a rich and glorious history of the Serbian River Flotilla.
