First CISM Balkan Mountain Running Championship opened
The first CISM Balkan Mountain Running Championship was officially opened today at the Military Academy’s sports centre.
During the opening ceremony, Acting Assistant Minister of Defence for Human Resources Siniša Radović wished all the competitors the best of luck at the championship. He referred to the 20-year long participation of members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in the International Military Sports Council (CISM) events and emphasized that, by competing, they represent the country and the military in the best possible way.- Sports and physical exercise are important for all the armed forces of the world, and that's why we respect that, and it is not only a right, but an obligation of every service member to achieve the highest possible level of psychophysical fitness - said Assistant Minister Radović.
According to the Head of the Serbian Delegation to the CISM, Lieutenant Colonel Asst. Prof. Negovan Ivanković, PhD, a new tradition begins in the year when the Republic of Serbia celebrates 20 years of membership in the International Military Sports Council (CISM), which at the same time celebrates its 75th anniversary.- I am glad that together we are building the tradition of regional Balkan military championships through the "Balkan Military Games" project and I would like our joint investment in the future to be extremely fruitful, primarily as a contribution to the development of sports in our military environments - said Lieutenant Colonel Ivanković and told the competitors that they are all winners, because friendships made through sports deserve the shiniest medal.
According to Assistant Minister of Sports Mirko Kantar, PhD, members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces have contributed to Serbia’s sporting success by participating in CISM sports events. They have shown their superior sports abilities, but also the virtues that every member of the Serbian Armed Forces has - courage, fighting spirit and dignity.The opening ceremony was attended by Commandant of the Military Academy, Colonel Assoc. Prof. Srđan Blagojević, PhD, and members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.
Representatives of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania and Slovenia will compete at the 1st CISM Balkan Mountain Running Championship, which will be held tomorrow, August 5, on the circular running route over the Vršac Hill.
