Serbian military build temporary bridge across Great Bačka Canal
Members of the River Flotilla’s pontoneer battalion have built a temporary bridge across the Great Bačka Canal on the regional route between Apatin and Sombor.
The bridge has been built at the request of the West Bačka Administrative District, it is 30 metres long, its total load-carrying capacity is 60 tones and it can be used by pedestrians, motorcyclists and motor vehicles. After necessary checks were made and road signs put up, the bridge was handed over to the West Bačka Administrative District, and an engineer working group made up of members of the River Flotilla will be responsible for its maintenance and safety. They will be on duty on the bridge 24/7 and will be responsible for regulating traffic, directing vehicles, tightening cables and inspecting couplings.
The preparation for the activity, the transportation of floats and the installation of the bridge provided the River Flotilla’s pontoneers with an opportunity to improve their skills by practicing the execution of unit-specific tasks.
The pontoon bridge will be in operation until the reconstruction of the nearby bridge on the regional route is completed, and the Serbian military have made life easier for the residents of this area, since they will no longer have to take alternative routes.
