Serbian Armed Forces Installed Pontoon Bridge to the Lido Beach
Members of Pontoneer Units of the Serbian Armed Forces completed the installation of a pontoon bridge across the Danube River, from the Zemun quay to the Great War Island enabling the citizens of Belgrade to spend this summer as well on the Danube beach Lido.
The load capacity of the pontoon bridge to the Lido beach is 20 tons, and it is 355 metres long, and it can be used by pedestrians and light vehicles. During the transport of the bridge elements along the river and its installation, the unit members practised the actions and procedures фор the execution of assigned tasks of pontoneer units, which further enhances their capabilities.
Today, the bridge has been handed over for use to the tourist organisation of Zemun Municipality, and during its exploitation, the safety and maintenance will be the responsibility of the River Flotilla pontoneers who have established the bridge as the crossing point.
To great satisfaction of citizens of Belgrade, members of the Serbian Armed Forces have been bridging the Danube for many years now from the Zemun bank to the Great War Island. This year as well, the pontoon bridge will be functional by the end of August, when it will be dismantled and transported to its organic garrison.
