Minister Vučević visits 55th Combat Group at Cyprus' Andreas Papandreou Air Base
As part of his visit to the Republic of Cyprus, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević visited today Andreas Papandreou Air Base in Paphos and the 55th Combat Group of the Cyprus Air Force.
Minister Vučević and the delegation from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces were welcomed by Base Commander Col. Michalis Michael, following which they attended a presentation on the structure of the 55th Combat Group and the Air Base given by members of the Command and the most experienced pilots.
During the tour of the base, Minister Vučević was presented with two types of aircraft, Mi-35 P and SA 342 Gazelle, and the unit’s equipment and armament.
During his visit to Andreas Papandreou Air Base, Minister Vučević was given a plaque.
There is an ongoing cooperation between the Serbian AF and AD and this unit, which will be considerably enhanced in the future due to the aircraft procurement plans. Serbian and Cypriot air force units are being equipped with next generation H-145 light combat helicopters, and currently have a similar aviation technology, so additional exchange of opinions is expected in the near future and over an extended period of time between the Serbian Air Force and Air Defence units and the said Cypriot unit.
