Military Academy holds Military Pentathlon Championship - “Aleksa Dragaš Memorial”



The Military Academy held the Military Pentathlon Championship - “Aleksa Dragaš Memorial” this weekend at the “General Jovan Mišković” barracks in Belgrade. The Championship ended today with the medal awarding ceremony.
Some 40 athletes from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces competed in this two-day military pentathlon competition in five events: 50 metre free style swimming, firing from assault rifle (simulation) - precision and rapid firing, overcoming obstacle course, grenade throwing at a target and at distance, and 4000 metre race.
 
The winner of this year's championship is the student of the Military High Vocational School “1300 Corporals” Jovan Gavrilović, and the second and third places were won by Military Academy cadets Đorđe Marković and Dejan Petrović respectively.
The first place in the competition of teams was deservedly won by Aleksa Dragaš’s friends, who lent solemnity to this sports competition, and the cup was conferred to Sergeant Major Miroslav Lacković from the Special Purpose Military Police Detachment “Kobre”.
 
The winners received their medals from head of Delegation of the Republic of Serbia to International Military Sports Council (CISM) Lieutenant Colonel Negovan Ivanković, PhD.
On the day of the opening of the Championship, a mural dedicated to Aleksa Dragaš was revealed at the Military Academy Sports Centre in the presence of the Head, Associate Professor Colonel Srđan Blagojević, and members of Aleksa’s family, relatives and friends.
Aleksa Dragaš was born in Zrenjanin in 1994. He finished Zrenjanin Grammar School and graduated from the Belgrade Military Academy as part of the 138th Class. He played several sports, and grew particularly fond of military pentathlon. He became a member of the national team of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces in 2016. On the Epiphany 2017, he recovered the Holy Cross from Ada Ciganlija Lake. Upon graduation from the Military Academy he worked at the Training Command’s NCO Training Centre. He died in 2022 after severe illness.
