25th Memorial “Goran Ostojić” held
The 25th Memorial “Goran Ostojić” was held today in Jagodina in memory of the legendary Commander of 63rd Parachute Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Goran Ostojić, who heroically gave his life defending his country in 1998.
The memorial was attended by Assistant Minister of Defence for Human Resources Siniša Radović, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, members of 63rd Parachute Brigade, and Association of veterans of 63rd Parachute Brigade, teachers and pupils of Jagodina primary school which was named after Lieutenant Colonel Ostojić, and numerous guests.Traditionally, the Association of veterans of 63rd Parachute Brigade, headed by retired Colonel Vidoje Kovačević, organises the Memorial “Goran Ostojić”.
At the beginning of the Memorial, members of 63rd Parachute Brigade performed demo-jumps in the school yard of the Primary School “Goran Ostojić”. The paratroopers carries the flags of the Republic of Serbia, 63rd Parachute Brigade, and the flag dedicated to Aleksandar Raković who died on 9th May 1999 in Čabrat near Đakovica.In the continuation of today’s event, a delegation of the Ministry of Defence, led by Assistant Minister of Defence Radović, laid a wreath at the memorial bust dedicated to Lieutenant Colonel Ostojić in the hall of the school “Goran Ostojić”, and wreaths were also laid by family members, delegation of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, 63rd Parachute Brigade, Association of Veterans of 63rd Parachute Brigade and other institutions and associations.
As part of the Memorial, the guests visited the exhibition of artistic works of the pupils of the said primary school and attended a solemn celebration. The Memorial will end tomorrow with a Karate competition.Lieutenant Colonel Goran Ostojić was born in 1962 in Bačko Dobro Polje. He died on 28th July 1998 in the region of Junik Mountains commanding units of 63rd Parachute Brigade in the operation of the prevention of illegal armament of terrorist forces and their insertion from Albania to Kosovo and Metohija.
