50th anniversary of MMA’s Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic

The Military Medical Academy’s Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic has celebrated its fiftieth anniversary and a hundred and ten years of maxillofacial surgery in Serbia. The ceremony was held at this military medical institution’s lecture theatre today.
The ceremony was attended by Head of the Military Health Department, Brigadier General Radivoje Anđelković, DVM, Deputy Head of the Military Medical Academy, Brigadier General Prof. Dragan Dinčić, M.D., Ph.D., Dean of the MMA’s Medical Faculty, Prof. Sonja Marjanović, M.D., Ph.D., numerous colleagues and associates from military and civilian spheres.

A pianist from the MoD’s “Stanislav Binički” Artistic Ensemble and the guest of honour, Oliver Njego, opened the ceremony by performing the national anthem.

On behalf of the host of the ceremony, Deputy Head of the MMA, Brigadier General Dragan Dinčić, addressed the audience, saying that events like this were small celebrations honouring the profession, science, health and man.
“The line between health and sickness is fine, mobile and as sensitive as the region of the head, face and neck that you deal with, always striving to be as good as your word. At the same time, that line is both strong and persistent, just as you are, fighting to restore facial appearance, dignity and faith in life to the injured and sick, both in peace and in war, doing reconstructive surgery and thereby doing great deeds", said Brigadier General Dinčić.

Head of the Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, Prof. Srboljub Stošić, M.D., Ph.D., greeted the audience, saying that it was his honour and a source of pride to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Clinic.

"Today, the MMA’s Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic is a modern, highly professional clinic where modern surgical procedures are performed in the treatment of head and neck diseases and injuries. This is also an educational institution involved in research work. Although expensive, high-tech procedures are unavailable to us, this does not affect our final surgical results," said Prof. Stošić, emphasizing the Clinic's cooperation with all surgical and internal medicine clinics at the Military Medical Academy, departments of anaesthesiology and dentistry, institutes for radiology, pathology, the Research Institute and others.
The ceremony was an opportunity to present the monograph on the history of the Clinic and maxillofacial surgery in Serbia.

The Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic diagnoses and treats the most serious face and neck diseases in a modern, highly specialized manner, and it dates back to 1912. The former head of the Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, Colonel  Prof. Nebojša Jović, M.D. Ph.D. (ret.)and the current head of the Clinic, Prof. Srboljub Stošić, M.D., Ph.D., talked about the history of the Clinic and maxillofacial surgery in Serbia, the path of its development and the greats in that field.

The official part of the celebration was followed by a one-day symposium, where eminent lecturers spoke about the work of the Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, as well as the future development of maxillofacial surgery in Serbia.
