Engineer training in overcoming water obstacles
Members of the River Flotilla’s Pontoneer Battalion have undergone routine training in overcoming water obstacles on the Sava River near Šabac.
This was a segment of a complex training process conducted in the unit throughout the year with the aim of maintaining the personnel’s proficiency in providing operational support to fighting elements conducting operations on inland waterways.
For several days, members of amphibious units practiced the tactics and procedures in overcoming a water obstacle at the established temporary crossing point. They practiced loading assets onto amphibious transporters, fixing failures and malfunctions and navigating in various conditions, using camouflage and providing direct protection to the unit.
As part of the training, amphibious transporter crews’ skills in overcoming water obstacles were evaluated against prescribed standards and their results confirmed they possessed excellent skills for performing unit-specific tasks.
This type of training, coupled with continuous specialized training conducted in the River Flotilla’s pontoneer battalions, ensures a high level of skill in unit members, which is, in addition to the proper functioning of the equipment, the most important prerequisite for conducting successful engineer river operations.
