Minister Vučević extends congratulations on March 8 – International Women's Day

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević hosted a reception for female members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces to mark March 8 – International Women’s Day.
Wishing all the women working at the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces a happy holiday, Minister Vučević said that they were the pillar of the community and successors of our famous heroines.
- The history of Serbia is full of outstanding examples of women heroes, who were determined to contribute, at any cost, to the defence of the homeland and the freedom of the people in defensive and liberation wars. It is hard to put into words the significance of what those heroines had done - warriors like Milunka Savić, nurses, humanitarians and all other women who went down in history due to their sacrifice and love for their homeland and family. Bearing in mind such examples of heroism, but also the importance of gender equality, we constantly strive to increase the percentage of women employed at the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces - said the Minister of Defence.
This holiday commemorates women’s struggle for economic, political and social equality. March 8 was officially recognized as the International Women's Day in 1917, whereas the United Nations recognized 1975 as International Women's Year and started officially celebrating March 8 as Women's Day.
