SAF unit deployed to UNIFIL

A unit subordinate to the Serbian Armed Forces Training Command was deployed to UNIFIL yesterday. Over the next six months, the unit will be performing tasks as part of the UN Peacekeeping Forces.
The Serbian force protection platoon will be tasked with securing the UN base where the Italian contingent is stationed.

Prior to deployment, the unit members had completed thorough preparations at SAF training grounds and exercise areas that had lasted for several months, getting ready for participation in the peacekeeping operation.
They will replace members of the SAF contingent who have been engaged on the same tasks in Lebanon for the past six months and are rounding off their engagement in this Middle Eastern country this month.
The Serbian Armed Forces started contributing troops to UNIFIL in 2010. Currently, Serbia’s contribution to UNIFIL includes a force protection platoon, an infantry company serving as an independent unit within the Spanish Battalion, staff officers at the Mission HQ and a group of specialists tasked with providing support to our contingent.
