Binički's first concert on British tour
The MoD’s "Stanislav Binički" Artistic Ensemble and the Countess of Wessex's String Orchestra held a joint concert in London’s Regent Hall, today. It was the first of two planned concerts during the Serbian military orchestra’s British tour.
The musicians of two renowned orchestras filled the concert stage with a very attractive combination of different uniforms and performed a mixture of melodies of different genres and styles from all over the world.
Several hundred visitors had the opportunity to hear the works of the greatest classical music composers, popular hits and film scores. The concert started with the "Royal Windsor" by Clive Jenkins, followed by the Concerto for Two Violins by Johann Sebastian Bach. The violin solos were performed by Lance Corporal Katie Davies and Uroš Kovandžić. This was followed by Elgar's "Serenade for Strings”, the famous "La Cumparsita" and popular animated film scores, and the joint performance of Binički’s repertoire attracted special attention.
Manjifiko's "Marijana", Vladimir Tošić's "Milunka's Waltz", appearing in the film about Milunka Savić, and Goran Bregović's "Tango" were greeted with thunderous applause. Major Duško Trnavac gave a notable performance of the clarinet solo from Acker Bilk’s "Stranger on the Shore" and Major Duško Stamenković played a clarinet solo from the attractive "Pastirska Balada" (Shepherd’s Ballad)by Božidar Boki Milošević.
The combined orchestra was alternately conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Igor Mitrović and Sergeant John Brown.
The audience called for an encore, so the musicians performed a mixture of Serbian compositions entitled "Serbian South" arranged by Andrija Todorović.
The next concert will be held on March 6, at 7:00 PM local time, at the Royal Military Chapel (Guards’ Chapel) in London.
