60th anniversary of IT Service marked



A ceremony to mark the 60th anniversary of IT Service and the CIS and IT Support Centre Day was held at the Guard’s Club in Topčider tonight. 
  At the event, the greatest achievements of SAF’s IT Service in the past several years were presented, awards were given to the most deserving individuals, as well as letters of thanks to institutions which actively collaborate with the Telecommunications and IT Department (J-6) and its subordinate units.  

A short review of the history of IT Service development in the Serbian Armed Forces was given, highlighting its notable achievements in the domain of information system design, implementation and exploitation, as well as the important role of this service in providing continuous telecommunications and IT support to the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.  
IT Service and the CIS and IT Support Centre celebrate their anniversary on this day in memory of February 21, 1963, when the Sixth Department was formed at the Yugoslav People’s Army General Staff. On that day, computer technology was introduced in the military and many other spheres of business.
