Pre-deployment off-road vehicle operating course
As part of their preparations for deployment to United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), some members of the Serbian Armed Forces are doing additional off-road vehicle operating course this week.
The course, which is taking place at the SAF Transport Service Training Battalion in Kraljevo, is being attended by NCOs who will serve as national support element’s drivers in the area of operations.
The first training segment has included theoretical instruction and driving on public roads, followed by the most demanding part of training – operating a vehicle across Beranovac obstacle course, which was built to UN standards and based on SAF members’ experience from peacekeeping operations. By negotiating this hard obstacle course, military drivers acquire skills needed for operating vehicles on rough terrain, which will be particularly useful when they start carrying out their tasks in Lebanon.
The off-road vehicle operating course is a mandatory part of thorough preparations that SAF personnel are required to do prior to deployment to peacekeeping operations as military observers, staff officers and drivers, in order to be fully prepared for all assignments they might be tasked with in the area of operations.
